About ceelab
ceelab grew out of a simple observation: existing labeling tools are expensive, limited and leave little freedom. ceelab puts control in the hands of the people who produce the labels: they design their own documents, their own way.
Where the name comes from
In French, cee stands for création et édition d'étiquettes (creating and editing labels), which is what the tool did in its early days. Today it produces all kinds of documents, but the name stuck. The “lab” is the laboratory: the place where templates are designed.
Two ways to use it
The documents are always the same, however they are produced.
- ceelab, the application: everything is created, managed and printed there, and the lab is where templates are designed.
- cee, the command line, for those who automate: it is called from a terminal and fits into scripts and scheduled tasks.
Why templates are designed in the lab
Designing a template is visual work: which image goes where, which piece of information sits in which spot. That happens on screen, in the lab; the command line is then used to put those templates to work.
